Cars & Places eNews
Volume 1, Number 11, June 10, 2005
Hello from Cars & Places! Welcome to eNews, our weekly update on the automotive world and area happenings. If you are a new reader, welcome! We hope you enjoy our tidbits of news as we ramp up our new magazine.
The
new Subaru B9 Tribeca is now showing at your local Subaru showrooms.
The B9 Tribeca is the largest Subaru we have seen in the US, incorporating
seating for 7 in some models. While the styling may be controversial, you
can never say that Subaru is too timid to try something different. They
are definitely not a "me-too" company when it comes to exterior design.
Power is supplied by a 3.0 liter, 250 horsepower, 6 cylinder engine mated to a
5-speed automatic gearbox.
Also
included is the latest incarnation of Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.
Electronics provide stability and traction control along with a variable torque
distribution system to optimize the power delivered to each wheel regardless of
road conditions. Plenty of electronics are available including a GPS
navigation system. Subaru is targeting the larger SUV/Crossover market
with the B9 Tribeca and should do well. Pricing starts at $30,695.

Ford
is really riding high with the Mustang. Currently, almost one out
every two sports cars sold in America is a Mustang. For 2006 Ford has
announced a new Pony package for the V6 Mustang that gives V6 customers the
looks and handling of the GT. For only $1,195 extra the Pony Package adds
GT-like fog lamps in the grill, 17" wheels and tires, GT-inspired suspension
pieces with 4-wheel anti-lock disk brakes and upgraded trim. The GT models
have some new wheel and tire combinations for '06 but the big news in the
performance Mustang arena will come next year with the introduction of the
Shelby Mustang as we reported earlier. See

information.
Places to Be!

The
Cars & Places staff attended the Carlisle All-Ford Nationals event this
past weekend. While Friday was a bit of a rain soaked day, Saturday and
Sunday were fantastic! We had our '65 Thunderbird among some very nice
other 'Birds. In fact, a 50 years of progression of the Thunderbird was
displayed, something not ever seen before. We met and talked with John
Samsen, one of the designers of the 1955 Thunderbird. We saw and talked
with lots of other T-Bird enthusiasts but there were also Fords of all types to
see. From Mustangs to F-150's to Skyliners and Model A's, if it was built
by Ford or Ford powered, there was at least one example to be seen. Next
up on Carlisle's schedule is the All-GM Nationals, check out

Our
stay in Carlisle, Pennsylvania was made extremely pleasant by electing to stay
at the Carlisle House Bed & Breakfast. Our hosts were Mary
and Alan Duxbury and they are first class innkeepers. We elected to stay
in the English Library room with its queen bed, private bath and double Jacuzzi
tub. Just the thing after walking around the fairgrounds all day!
Some of the many amenities included, free telephone (even long-distance) free
wireless internet access and a DVD library to go with the in-room DVD equipped
television. Fresh fruits, teas and sodas were available in the kitchen 24
hours a day. The morning breakfast was served buffet style and was
complete and delicious. The Duxbury's have purchased the home next door to
the current inn are in the process of remodeling and creating more guests rooms.
Make sure you plan on staying at the Carlisle House on your next trip through
the area, and tell them Cars & Places sent you! Their informative website
can be found at
